expressvpn has numerous different payment options, including Giro Pay which is used by many people in Germany (where we live). ![]() We would have stayed with PIA if it hadn't been for the fact that a credit card is required to be on file with them as they require a minimum of two payment types for renewal purposes. Only PIA and expressvpn were remotely satisfactory by providing very good (PIA) to phenomenal (expressvpn) speeds, even while torrenting (legal) downloads. ![]() We've tried numerous services such as shellfire, cyberghost, PIA, and purevpn. Very good instructions on how to change your DNS settingsĮxpressvpn is hands down the best service that we've used at home in the past four years. I would also highly recommend that you change your DNS settings to those provided by "OpenNic", or another DNS provider, or maybe your paid for VPN service that you decide on can provide those DNS setting(s) as well as part of your VPN service. Also with "vpnbook" service, I recommend using the TCP profiles versus the UDP profiles for better security, and don't forget you might have to create a firewall rule to allow whatever system "ports" the VPN service requires to be "open", like port 80 TCP or port 443 TCP.Įxcellent, easy, instructions for setting up a VPN ![]() They also do not have the speed, nor the number of available world wide server connections that some users might need, nor some other useful features and options (Parental filters, etc.), that a better "paid for" VPN service might provide, but their service works well. Although, they do change their passwords frequently, so you have to update your VPN connection(s) password when "vpnbook" changes it, which is a simple right click the network manager, click the VPN connection settings, change the password, thing to do. You could use a free VPN service, like the very good "vpnbook" service which is easy to setup and use. "OpenVPN" is the most secure VPN protocol, and I would highly recommend that you use it with any VPN service. Linux Mint already has all the necessary networking components built-in to simply use any good VPN service. Personally, I do not think you need a VPN's client software at all, and I'm not sure that it is a good idea to use one. It is definitely a good idea to use a VPN. There are some good suggestions already in this post. You can easily search the internet (web), as I have, by looking for "Best VPN 2016", or something like that to see what the reviewer's say. I am sorry to hear that you had problems with PIA because I have read a lot regarding VPN's, and they are considered one of the best. I just read your post and some good replies to it. Hi "LamphunLumyai", and anyone else interested in this, So someone else will benefit from this same question being asked. Suggestions? Apologies in advance for sounding like a broken record, but I'm a firm believer that for every one person who is willing to ask questions like this, there are 100 that aren't. So, what I'm looking for is the most 'newbie friendly' VPN client and provider for Linux Mint (Cinnamon) systems. I'm not totally ignorant, just not comfortable. ![]() MS Windows? Different story, but I'm trying to move off of Windows for good. To be honest, at this point, I've even built packages from scratch, but I'm not comfortable doing so because I'm not well versed in programming, bare-bones networking, scripting, or running Linux from the terminal. Now what I'd like is some suggestion on which VPN service provider works the most successfully for Linux Mint (Ubuntu 14.04) users. I've followed all their instructions and I'm knowlegable enough and analytical enough not to be completely 'lead by the hand' once I've been seen how a particular configuration works.Īt this point I've uninstalled and purged openvpn and the network manager packages associated with openvpn and reinstalled them. I can neither get their Beta GUI client nor their OpenVPN to work either by manually setting up Network Manager or importing their configuration files (.ovpn) which are essentially the same as setting up a manual link. As a previous post noted, PIA is not working for me.
